The Henry County Youth Center provides thirty
(30) secure detention beds. These beds are available 24/7 to
multiple counties in Indiana who have a negotiated contract
per diem rate for the "guaranteed" beds. Current contract
counties include Boone, Fayette, Hancock, Rush and Wayne. Beds
are also available 24/7 to counties, on an as needed as available
basis, at a non-contract per diem rate.
Secure detention is the temporary and safe
custody of a juvenile who is accused of conduct subject to
the jurisdiction of the court that required a restricted (locked)
environment. The Henry County Youth Center provides a wide
range of "helpful" services to the youth while in
custody. These services include, at a minimum, a structured
behavior program, education, recreation, nutrition, medical/mental
health services, visitation and religious services.

| Shelter Care Unit |

The Henry County You center provides ten (10)
staff secure/shelter beds. These beds are available 24/7 to
multiple counties in Indiana who have negotiated a contract
per diem rate. However, Henry County Circuit/Superior Court
retains an immediate access privilege. Beds may also be available
24/7 to counties, on an as needed as available basis, at a non-contract
rate.
Staff Secure/Shelter is the temporary and safe
custody of a youth eight (8) and above who are subject to
the jurisdiction of the court requires the least restrictive
out of home placement. The Henry County Youth Center provides
a wide range of "helpful" services to the youth
while in placement. These services include, at a minimum,
a structured behavior program, education, recreation, nutrition,
medical and mental health services, visitation and religious
services. The youth may attend public school, participate
in community activities. The residents are kept separate from
those in the secure detention unit.

John & Nancy Kellam Residential Treatment Unit |

The Henry County Youth Center provides ten (10) staff secure residential treatment beds. These beds are only available to Henry County.
Residential Treatment is defined as the long term and safe area for treatment of a youth ages eight (8) and above who is subject to the jurisdiction of the court and who requires a staff secure treatment setting for a period of between three (3) and eight (8) months.
The Henry County Youth Center provides a wide range of helpful services to the youth and family while in placement.
These services include, at a minimum:
- Structured behavior program
- Educational services – in-house and public school
- Individualized treatment planning
- Clinical mental health services – individual, group and family
- Recreation
- Nutrition
- Medical and health services and education
- Visitation
- Religious services
- After care
- Re-entry services are provided by Comprehensive Medical Services (CMHS)
The youth participate in a variety of community service projects, volunteer programs and employment opportunities (where applicable).
The Kellam Unit residents are kept separate from those in the secure detention unit.
